Bringing people together to advance the common good

United Way was built on the belief that together, we can accomplish more than any individual or organization can alone. We’re bringing together the hearts, hands and minds of our region to make Central Texas the best place in the country for individuals and families to live and prosper.

United Way Capital Area is a locally run chapter of the United Way of America umbrella organization. Each United Way operates independently and is locally governed. A volunteer Board of Directors oversees our strategic direction and steers our financial decisions. United Way Capital Area serves a 10 county area comprising of Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis, and Williamson counties.

We help and collaborate with hundreds of local nonprofit agencies, providing financial, volunteer and advocacy support, and we review these agencies each year to ensure they do the best possible work in the community. We also advocate for social issues, convene community leaders from across all sectors to solve local human services problems, provide volunteers for a myriad of local projects, study and address long-term solutions to emerging social challenges, and we raise funds through workplace campaigns and individual donors.

During the more than 80 years United Way Capital Area has been part of the Central Texas community, many thousands of individuals have contributed to United Way and volunteered their time and talents.

Our Mission

United Way Capital Area addresses critical social issues by bringing people and resources together to create opportunities for individuals, families and neighborhoods to prosper.

Our Vision

Central Texas is a caring community where the opportunity to fulfill human potential and build better lives is always within reach.

How We Do the Work

We are holding ourselves more accountable to the community, to ensure that the funds invested in United Way are used to create real, long-term change. Through a research study by the Ray Marshal Center and with the help of countless community stakeholders, we've identified very specific, measurable outcomes we hope to achieve around key community issue areas: Education, Financial Stability, and Health.
