United Way Capital Area's New Community Impact Model

We’re excited to announce that United Way Capital Area has selected the recipients of its next round of Community Investment Grants. Beginning in January, United Way will be investing more than $9.2 million in targeted programs that will impact the lives of countless Central Texas families over the next two-and-a-half years.

At its December meeting, the United Way Capital Area Board of Directors approved the allocation of funding to 47 programs through 36 nonprofit agencies. These are highly effective programs that passed a rigorous screening and review process that included more than 165 volunteers and 1,800 hours of evaluation and discussion. All of the programs recommended for Community Investment Grant funding will work towards desired outcomes and achieve a positive, measurable impact in the Central Texas community.

United Way is working in a more focused and deliberate way than ever before, ensuring that the community dollars are put toward programs and services that address the underlying causes of the growing opportunity gap that exists in our region. To this end, all of the Community Investment Grants are being placed in our three Focus Areas: Education, Health, and Financial Stability. We believe that by working on these issues, we will see long-term change in community conditions.

Some facts about the new funding process:
  • We received applications for 148 programs from 88 agencies requesting $13.6 million—more applications than any time in the 80-year history of United Way Capital Area.
  • Of the 36 agencies receiving funding, 14 are new agencies that were not funded by United Way in the previous funding cycle.
  • We will be investing more than $600,000 in transitional funding for currently funded agencies that were not selected to receive new Community Investment Grants.
  • Our work is more regional, with more agencies than ever serving all corners of the 10-county Central Texas region.
Our Theory of Change
Research shows a growing disparity between those who are succeeding in our community, and those who are falling behind. To address the growing disparity, which we call the opportunity gap, United Way is now focusing its work. Take a look at our Theory of Change. It's about investing in strategies that have been proven to work and then measuring the outcomes. Most importantly, it's about giving everyone the opportunity to succeed.
