What is 2-1-1 Texas?
2-1-1 is a free, easy-to-use phone number that connects callers with health and human service providers. It is available statewide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is multilingual.
2-1-1 Texas is also the state disaster-information line and can connect callers to disaster-relief resources.
People in need benefit by calling 2-1-1 for a seamless system that gives one-call access to healthcare and basic needs information and referrals.
How does 2-1-1
Texas work?
2-1-1 Texas has 25 call centers statewide and provides 24/7 access to information and referral services. In Austin, 2-1-1 Texas is a public/private partnership led by United Way Capital Area and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
The 2-1-1 Texas office at United Way Capital Area serves the following counties: Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis and Williamson.
The mission of 2-1-1 Texas is to help meet the needs of the community by providing information, education, and connection to services.
Who is eligible
to call?
2-1-1 Texas is for anyone who needs help and doesn't know where to turn. Although resources vary by community, 2-1-1 Texas connects callers with a wide range of community resources by zip code and county. Case managers, church leaders, employers, teachers, or other agencies calling on someone's behalf are also welcome to call.
When is 2-1-1
available?
2-1-1 Texas is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can also access the 2-1-1 Texas online database anytime.
Is 2-1-1 Texas
a crisis hotline?
2-1-1 Texas is not a crisis line. Individuals in immediate crisis should call 911. Individuals in Travis county looking to speak to a trained counselor should call Austin Travis County Integral Care at 512-472-4357, ext. 1. Individuals living in counties outside Travis may call 2-1-1 Texas to obtain the phone numbers for their local mental health crisis centers.
Will 2-1-1 Texas
provide financial assistance?
2-1-1 Texas is a telephone information and referral line. We don't provide financial assistance; however, we can direct you to agencies in the community that may be able to provide assistance.
What types of
calls does 2-1-1 Texas receive?
2-1-1 Texas receives calls regarding health services, basic needs requests (food, clothing, housing, rent/utility payment assistance), government resources, education, employment, counseling, childcare facilities, and more.
