A System of Leadership

“Participating in YLS has eased my transition to life in Austin. As a member of YLS, I have had opportunities to meet other professionals in the Austin area who care about the community and that have made my personal community a little brighter.”
Myndi Garrett

YLS Membership provides the opportunity to meet and build relationships with leaders who believe in sharing what they have achieved. Building a network of concerned Young Leaders provides a voice in the community that cannot be ignored. Are you interested in answers to homelessness, education or health and human services? Chances are you will find many members with similar interests and a desire to move beyond concern to action. Networking through YLS helps to shape the Austin community.

The Austin chapter of YLS consists of professionals across many fields who have exhibited leadership as engineers, administrators, doctors, managers, politicians, lawyers and many other professions. As members of YLS, this collective leadership provides opportunities for skills development, education, coaching and mentoring. As a member of YLS, you have access to a network of professionals who can help you enhance your opportunities.

Creating the connections for networking is not always easy and YLS provides the following opportunities/events to help you build your networks and help the community.

YLS has been networking all over Austin from Moonshine Bar and Grill in March to North by Northwest in May to Vivo Mexicana Cocina in August, just to name a few. Stay tuned to find out where YLS will be next!

Leadership Giving Impact

I’m Peg.

Last year, while on leave from my job, I found myself with more free time. I decided I wanted to get more involved in community activities. I attended the fall meeting of the United Way Women's Giving Network (WGN). That particular meeting happened to feature a speaker who talked to us about child well-being and the state of childcare in the city.

The presentation moved me deeply, and I became interested in improving the quality of childcare in Austin.

Also at that meeting, I learned that the WGN did not yet have a system in place to provide its members the opportunities to participate in volunteer activities.
