YLS inspires philanthropy and volunteerism in the young leaders of Central Texas.
YLS is made up of leaders, ages 21-45 who, individually or as a couple, invest a gift of $1,000 or more annually in United Way Capital Area.

How do YLS events support the mission of United Way Capital Area?

YLS is dedicated to inspiring philanthropy and volunteerism in young Central Texan professionals. To that end, YLS hosts many events throughout the year that educate and motivate young professionals to get involved in the Austin community.

United Way Capital Area has identified three root causes of our community’s most critical ills. Those root causes are Education, Financial Stability, and Health. YLS seeks to support the long-lasting changes being initiated by United Way Capital Area through events focused on these root causes.


Early in the year YLS hosts educational, social and volunteer events that focus on Financial Stability. Events like the YLS FAFSA volunteer day engage young professionals in not only providing financial aid assistance to potential college students, but, also allows a family to remain financial stable while pursuing higher education.

Beginning in May YLS hosts events that focus on Health. Volunteer and educational events provide insight into the importance of health and health related services to the Austin Community.

In July, to prepare for the beginning of a new school year, YLS hosts educational, volunteer, and social events that focus on Education as a root cause. The YLS Kickball Tournament is an opportunity for YLS members to have fun while recruiting teams and potential members for United Way Capital Area’s One Hour for Kids Program.

YLS also provides networking and recruiting happy hours regularly so that potential and current members can mix, mingle, and find the support and encouragement to change Central Texas, for good.
